Dell 2.1 Multimedia Speaker System

Dell 2.1 Multimedia Speaker System Reviews

For background, I do a lot of listening on reference studio monitors. Shopping for kitchen speakers was difficult because everything out there seems to be built to look awfully gawky and/or have a tremendous amount of underdampened bass in the 120 hz region.br /br /All I was looking for was an unobtrusive looking, decent sounding set of speakers for a relatively low price with a wired volume remote.br /br /These speakers deliver in those areas. The volume on the remote feels very smooth, like something "apple" would sell :). The midrange and treble are not over equalized and the speakers disperse sound about as well as any other. The low end is as loud as it needs to be, and the separate bass control is marked so that it is easy to find the "neutral" position.br /br /As far as power output, these speakers can get pretty loud, although the low end progressively begins to distort as it gets louder. The power handling is plenty for filling out kitchen even though I listen to hip hop and house music, which are demanding on the low end. With those styles the speakers are usually at the edge of what they can handle. For a larger room you would have to tolerate some distortion if you frequently listen to bass heavy music at a high level.br /br /Overall I am very pleased with the design and construction of these. The lateral speaker cables are long enough (about 6 feet for each) and the remote cord is long enough to set the volume control on our kitchen counter with the sub sitting on the top kitchen shelf.br /br /The remote has a headphone output and a line in input (in addition to the line input that leads to the subwoofer) The system mixes both inputs, so that there is no need to select which input is active. I found that to be very convenient, that way the main input can be connected to my PC in the living room and the additional input has a cable that can be connected to somebody's iphone in the kitchen if they feel like playing their own music instead.br /br /If you want speakers that look good, sound good, work well and aren't very expensive, look no further.

A Pleasant Surprise! - Judy Garrido - Arizona, U.S.A
I've had this set of speakers for a month now and have been pleasantly surprised at how clear the sound is, regardless of the volume. I like to test speaker quality by turning it up to max volume and see if the sound gets distorted. It didn't. I also really like how compact the two speakers are.br /br /I checked out several different speakers for my laptop and multimedia player, and was just not pleased with the sound quality, or the volume. This very reasonably priced set finally ended my search.br /br /If you're looking for quality sound, compact speakers (and not an overly large subwoofer), that can still get loud when you want it........I would definitely recommend this set.

Gets the job done - J. Abad - CA
Well for starters they are sleek in appearance and are a great size for a desk. They have worked great for the past 6 months, give or take a month. I recently ran into a problem though, in which i cannot have them up real high for more than about half an hour or the speakers begin to crackle. It does go away after letting them rest at low volume for a bit but it is still a problem. I guess i should have gotten them from the actual manufacturer which is dell. All in all they did their job just not sure how much longer they will last but i will repost if they do not last for the rest of this year.br /br /P.S. bass is awesome when they do work though :)
